The incident happened on Wednesday, Aug. 16 around 10 a.m., when crews were sent to Lake Road in Somers for a reported brush fire, according to the Somers Volunteer Fire Department.
Arriving firefighters then confirmed that a blaze had been ignited by downed wires and had New York State Electric & Gas de-energize the lines while they briefly closed the road.
Crews were then able to work toward putting out the fire, which took around an hour before the scene was handed back to NYSEG.
In the aftermath of the incident, the department warned residents to stay at least three poles away from any burning wires.
